Musical of the Week

The Greatest Showman

A 2017 musical drama motion picture inspired by P.T. Barnum’s circus. It is the 5th highest-grossing live-action musical of all time. I first heard of the movie from my friend, AA and when I watched it, I was mesmerized. I remember being in awe as the opera singer, Jenny Lind performed the song Never Enough (my absolute best soundtrack for this movie). I loved the plot, catchy musical numbers, and stunning dance moves. The movie is one of my best all-time musicals.

I have had the entire movie soundtrack on my Samsung Music app for over 3 years and I still use it as my ringtone and alarm sounds. Other amazing soundtracks I liked from the movie include A Million Dreams, This is Me, The Other Side, The Greatest Show, From Now On.

If you would like to watch the movie again or haven’t watched it at all, just click the link below to rent or buy the movie from Amazon at a budget-friendly price.

Songs of the Week

  • Iya Basira by Styl Plus – Hilarious song about the addictive food made and sold by Iya Basira.
  • Wavin’ Flag by Young Artists for Haiti – It is a remake of K’naan’s original song by a group of Canadian artists. It was to raise funds after the earthquake in Haiti in the year 2010. An insightful line for me is “You probably think that it’s too far to even have to care. Well, take a look at where you live, what if it happened there?
  • I’ll make a man out of you by Donny Osmond – A soundtrack from Mulan (1998 animated film) about what it takes to become stronger soldiers.

Kindly note that you can listen to the above songs by simply clicking on the title of the song.

Book of the Week

Jane Eyre

by Charlotte Brontë

It’s an epic love fictional novel about the main character, Jane. She encounters several difficulties in her life such as her harsh Aunt Reed, the terrible conditions at Lowood school, her love for the mysterious Mr Rochester.

I asked my brother to buy the book for me when I was in university. I can’t recall why I asked for this book specifically. I have only read the entire book once as the story from her childhood till she became a governess was too sad to bear. I have however read about her life as a governess till the end of the book several times.

Lessons I learnt:

  • Doing the right thing, no matter how hard or painful, is always the best option.
  • It’s a small world so show love and compassion to people placed in your care.
  • Don’t settle for second best if number one is available.
  • The truth will eventually come to light so save others heartbreak and hurt by being honest upfront.

It is a classic worth reading. You can obtain a copy by clicking the Amazon link below:

Do share in the comments if you have read this book and your opinion of it.

  1. Ok. So for this week’s trove it seems you just went into my treasure chest to pick stuffs. So in retaliation, I’m going to post a lengthy comment.
    1. Zobo. At a point in time, this was my favourite drink, I drink it practically daily and because of its medicinal value, I enjoyed it. But some vendors use artificial sweeteners and the rest which makes it a waste to me.
    2. The greatest showman. I have always been anti-musicals. I can’t watch 5minutes of a musical. Except for the classics. Let’s face it (those movies were amazing). But I can tell you, the greatest showman is the musical that I watched and watched again, downloaded all the ost, and shared it to friends. I couldn’t hide this gem.
    3. Iya basira o!!!
That was when styl+ were at the top of their game. Gosh, the album was fantastic and this particular song has always been fun, in that it’s catchy and it has comedic lyrics.
4- Jane Eyre!!!!!!!!!! I really don’t know how many times I read this book. I read it when I was in secondary school. I had to look for the soft copy, since I became an avid ebook fan. The book is purely a masterpiece.

Ok. Forgive me. Let me leave it like this for now. 🤭🤭🤭

  2. Talking about Zobo, I have imagined how a carbonated zobo will taste like .I mean I love carbonated drinks so who kept Zobo might just come out fine.

A concert for oldies looked the styl plus group, plantanshun Bois, Tunde and Wunmi Obey would really be nice. They can title it “Nostalgia”.

Good review by the way. Still trying to decipher the painting..is it a market scene?

    1. Tuale Baba Blades!🙌🏾
Fizzy zobo that sounds very interesting. I can imagine guzzling a glass of sparkling zobo with ice cubes floating around garnished with a lime wedge.
A Nostalgia playlist is a brilliant idea.
And yes, the painting is a market scene.
Thank you for the wonderful feedback.
      Cheers!
